Exile on Bourbon Street, a Brian Fallon interview, and more

Here are some links to the latest in music:

  • Brian Fallon always seems so conscious of how he comes off. This quote is just the beginning of a great interview with Noisey: “When you do a second record, you have to sort of firm up what you’re gonna do. You’ve gotta be like, ‘Am I doing this kind of music? Or am I doing this kind of music?’” He explains further: “The first record that people do, you get a little leeway. You get like, ‘Oh! He tried some weird stuff, that’s cool.’ But then with the next one they’ve expected you to figure it out.”

  • Ryan Adams and Don Was are putting together a Stones tribute event called “Exile On Bourbon Street.” Was has served as a producer for many great albums, including a few by the Stones, and re-mixed Exile on Main St. for reissue in 2010. He will serve as musical director. The concert will be May 5 at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. Tickets go on sale April 2 and a lineup is expected to be announced by then.

  • I haven’t listened much to the music of I’m With Her, but all three members have made great music before getting together. Sara Watkins is in Nickel Creek with Chris Thile, has toured with the Decemberists, and Young In All The Wrong Ways was one of my favorites of 2016; Aoife O’Donovan is in Crooked Still and has her own great 2016 album called In The Magic Hour; Sara Jarosz has mostly performed as a solo artist, but has been nominated for five Grammys and won two. The folk trio played songs from their new album, See You Around at NPRs Tiny Desk Concert.

  • Wye Oak, an indie rock band from Baltimore, shared a new song called “Lifer” yesterday, the third track we’ve heard (after the title track and “It Was Not Natural”) from their April 6 The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs.
