Although “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” was released as a single a month after the album it first appeared on, Songs From the Big Chair, in 1985, which was at the end of March, the song reached number one on the US singles chart on this date and remained there for two consecutive weeks. It topped that same chart for a total of five non-consecutive weeks. The song would go on to win the “Best Single” award at the Brit Awards. It was the third single released from the album, following “Mothers Talk” and “Shout,” and went on to not only the biggest success of any song on the album, but of the band’s entire career as well.
