Welcome to the song of the day, where we feature a single track, whether its brand new or older than us, overlooked or overplayed, our favorite or no one’s favorite; as long as its interesting, it can be the song of the day.
Linda McCartney was a photographer, musician, a member of Wings, and the wife of Paul McCartney before her death 20 years ago today. Although most of her musical contributions were with Wings, there was an album of material she recorded over the course of her career released posthumously in 1998, which included the song “New Orleans.” The song was first recorded in 1975 with Wings, though Linda has the sole writing credit on the song, and features Linda on lead vocals. The album, Wide Prairie, has a number of great songs on it, including singles “The Light Comes From Within,” the last song she recorded before her death, and the title track, “Wide Prairie,” written with her husband.
Linda McCartney was 56 when she died of breast cancer on April 17, 1998.
