Dawes announce new record, Chance steps in with Kanye and Trump, and more

  • Californian band Dawes have announced their sixth album, Passwords by way of their website, , which includes a letter from frontman Taylor Goldsmith and a 30-second album teaser, featuring songs from each of their first five albums culminating in the chorus to the first track on the upcoming Passwords, “Living in the Future.” In the letter, Taylor had this to say about the band’s first album since 2016 We’re All Gonna Die.

“These songs are about everything to the extent that any Dawes record has been…but in this case there is more of an objective…at least for us – to think a little harder about not just how but WHY we (not just ‘you’ or ‘I’ but ‘we’) feel the ways that we do. What small steps can be taken to revisit these old ideas of empathy? How can we develop a form of communication that goes beyond making sure you’ve said your piece and accurately aims at being heard?”

Passwords is out June 22.

  • The second single from Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour, “Space Cowboy,” now has an official music video.
  • Noah and Abby Gundersen joined Phoebe Bridgers to record a live mash-up of Bridgers’ song “Killer” and Noah’s song “The Sound.” “Killer” comes from Bridgers’ debut full-length album, Stranger in the Alps from 2017, while “The Sound” comes from Noah’s fourth solo album, White Noise, which was also released last year. It’s a pretty cool concept, and with the two acts touring together right now, it’d definitely be interesting to see it played live with both artists on stage.
  • There was plenty of weird stuff this week involving Kanye West’s very vocal support of President Trump. Chance the Rapper’s tweet, which said that all black people do not have to be Democrats, was then referenced in praise by the president, which Chance has now rejected:
