Hear a new song from The National, gender breakdown at festivals, and more

Here’s the latest music news, after the jump:

 

  • The National debuted a new song, “Light Years,” at their Homecoming Festival recently. The band’s latest album is Sleep Well, Beast, which was released in 2017.
  • With the summer coming up fast and festival season beginning soon, Pitchfork did a breakdown of the gender of the acts of some of the biggest festivals in the US. The overall breakdown was 70 percent male acts, 19 percent female acts, and 11 percent mixed gender acts. Only three of the 20 largest reached the 50/50 mark. The breakdown did not include one of Philadelphia’s biggest festival, WXPN’s Xponential Music Festival, but I was curious so I ran the numbers: this year’s lineup is 48 percent male, 20 percent female, and 31 percent mixed gender.

 

 

  • There have been so many songs released from Frank Turner’s Be More Kind, out on Friday, that I feel like I’ve heard the whole album. “Little Changes” is the sixth song we’ve heard from the album:
