Here’s the latest music news for Wednesday:
- Death Cab For Cutie have a clip of new music on their website, with a teaser hinting at a new album in August. The band’s last album, Kintsugi in 2015, was the first released since Chris Walla left the band, though Walla played on just about every song on the album and had a writing credit on the penultimate track, “Ingenue.” He was not with the band on the ensuing tour, but this album is expected to be the first real album that he does not play on.
- Looks like Liam Gallagher has turned around quickly following his first solo album, As You Were, last year, tweeting that he’s writing with Greg Kurstin and Andrew Wyatt. Kurstin has worked with a lot of notable names, including Sia, Foo Fighters, Adele, Beck, Tegan & Sara, and more. Wyatt worked with Gallagher on As You Were, including co-writing the first two singles, “Wall of Glass” and “Chinatown.”

- A cool video has surfaced from a weekend show in Vancouver where Phoebe Bridgers’ played a cover of “The House That Heaven Built” by the Japandroids. Bridgers’ is touring on her breakthrough album, Stranger in the Alps. “The House That Heaven Built” is from the Canadian rock bands’ second album, 2012’s Celebration Rock.
- Last year, Ray Davies of The Kinks released his fifth solo album, Americana, and his first in a decade. Now, Davies has announced a sequel of sorts to that album, Our Country: Americana Act II, to be released June 29. Like the first album, Our Country was recorded in London with The Jayhawks. The announcement was accompanied by this video providing some background from Davies on the new music as well as the first song, “Our Country.”
