New details on upcoming albums by Robyn, Shooter Jennings, and other music news

  • Swedish pop star Robyn gave some details on her new album at the Red Bull Music Festival in New York last night. According to Stereogum, she lists ’90s house music, club music, Michael and Janet Jackson, and Prince as influences on her first album since 2010’s Body Talk.

  • Stephen Malkmus was the guest DJ on All Songs Considered today and brought with him a list of songs ranging from Queen to Sweet to Samiyam to Frankie Valli. Malkmus, the former frontman of Pavement, just recently released his seventh album, Sparkle Hard, with The Jicks.

  • Ariana Grande, whose newest album, Sweetener, comes out this summer, tweeted about the one year anniversary of the Manchester bombing, when a suicide bomber took 22 lives during one of her concerts in the English city. Last week, Grande spoke with Time magazine about her upcoming album and revealed how the event informed the new music, including the title.

Also, she’s apparently dating SNL’s Pete Davidson?

  • Shooter Jennings has announced his 10th studio album, Shooter, due out August 10. The announcement comes with this music video for new song, “Fast Horses and Good Hideouts,” which also features some of those old-fashioned country variety show aesthetics and jokes.
