Since their breakthrough album, Bad Self Portraits in 2014, Lake Street Dive has put out quality music with consistency, following that album with their third, Side Pony in 2016 and now, today’s Free Yourself Up.
Lake Street Dive are made up of four classically trained musicians who hail from around the country but met and formed at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Though the band features the stellar vocals of lead singer Rachel Price at the forefront, all four band members, Price, Mike Olson, Bridget Kearney, and Mike Calabrese, contribute to the songwriting. On Free Yourself Up specifically, Kearney has seven credits, Olson four, Calabrese three, and Price one.
The album’s two singles were “Good Kisser” and “I Can Change,” which fall second and fourth amongst the album’s ten songs.
Lake Street Dive will be at the Fillmore in Philadelphia on May 12.
