Featured album of the week: "Tree of Forgiveness" by John Prine

John Prine has been making music since 1971. His last full album of new material was Fair & Square in 2005, so with the release of Tree of Forgiveness yesterday, he went 13 years between albums.

The album had three pre-release songs, “Summer’s End,” “Knockin’ on Your Screen Door,” and “God Only Knows.” The album was produced by Dave Cobb and the album features a number of interesting credits, including two songs co-written with the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, one with a credit to Phil Spector, and background vocals and various instrumentation by Amanda Shires, Jason Isbell, and Brandi Carlile.

Prine’s tour supporting the album has a number of interesting supporting acts, including John Moreland, Kurt Vile, Conor Oberst, Valeria June, and Amanda Shires. His show tomorrow night in Philadelphia is at the Kimmel Center, with Vile opening.
