Brent Cowles follows up his debut release, a 2017 EP titled Cold Times, with his first full-length today. Cowles grew up in Colorado Springs and was in part inspired to play music by his father, a local nondenominational pastor. Cowles was featured on a list of up-and-comers to watch out for by NPR earlier this year, named one of their ‘slingshot artists.’
Cowles’ solo career follows two albums he released with a band he formed as a 16-year-old called You Me And Apollo. Before today, Cowles had released “Keep Moving” and the album’s title track as singles.
Regarding the recording of the album Cowles told Parade last week: “We did 95 percent of the recording in six days in Yucca Valley, California. My producer/drummer/engineer, Joe Richmond, turned a great little Airbnb into a recording studio for us in the middle of nowhere. Then, over the next couple months, we had time to add or remove parts here and there, put down the guitar tracks I couldn’t play with a cast on, etc. I think the benefit was immersing ourselves in the process and making it an experience. We made music in paradise and in solitude. It was beautiful.”
Following an album release show last night in Denver, Cowles’ tour in support of How To Be Okay Alone will begin next week, with a stop opening for The Sheepdogs at World Cafe Live at the end of July.
