Here’s the latest music news after the jump:
- California band Dawes (pictured above) announced a series of dates opening up for Jeff Lyne’s ELO, including August 24 at the Wells Fargo Center.
- The new dates announced by the Arctic Monkeys do not include a Philadelphia date, and in fact, include very limited US dates — Boston, New York, DC, and a few others, but they will be at Firefly, which is in Dover. The album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, is less than a month away and the band still hasn’t released any music from it.
- John Prine’s new album his first in 13 years, is out this Friday, but is streaming on NPR’s First Listen right now. Amongst the 10 tracks on The Tree of Forgiveness are the three singles, “Knocking on Your Screen Door,” “Summer’s End,” and “God Only Knows.”
- Johnny Cash: Forever Words was released on Friday, and one of my favorite of the songs featuring unpublished Johnny Cash lyrics and poetry, is “To June This Morning,” recorded by married couple Kacey Musgraves and Ruston Kelly. Here’s a video of the two, and Cash’s son John Carter, talking about the history behind the recording, as well as the song itself.
