Here’s a collection of music news from St. Patrick’s Day weekend:
- Check out this column on The Dixie Chicks by “Easy” Ed over at No Depression. It’s been 15 years since Natalie Maines criticized George W. Bush and her band was thanked with a country radio boycott of their music. The band’s next album, Taking the Long Way Home, was a powerful response and just like Ed, I’m hoping for something new at some point.
- Colter Wall released his self-titled debut album last year, showing off a deep, rich country voice that sounded well beyond the years of the 21-year-old singer-songwriter. On Friday he posted this to Instagram, saying his next album is ready to go:
- Arcade Fire were the musical guest on Saturday’s Bill Hader-hosted episode of SNL, and as they have in the past, popped up in a sketch, this one playing into the band’s Canadian-ness.
- There have been ripples of rumors of new Carly Rae Jepsen music to follow up 2015’s E•MO•TION, and now over the weekend she posted this picture, saying that she’s been working with songwriter/producer Jack Antonoff, who, after years of quality music with Steel Train and fun., exploded last year thanks to collaborations with Taylor Swift, Lorde, St. Vincent, and his own band, Bleachers.
