Hey! Here’s some of the latest goings-on in music.
- Daveed Diggs, who, if you’re rich and live near New York, you may recognize from Hamilton, or, if you’re more like me, you may recognize from Black-ish and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt joined Sesame Street recently for a food rap battle. The carrot is played by Diggs, the sweet potato by his frequent collaborator, Rafael Casal, and the Elmo is played by Elmo.
- New Jersey band Titus Andronicus have released a documentary about the making of their upcoming album A Productive Cough. The film is directed by Ray Concepcion and was filmed during the album production in New Paltz, New York. For an hour of Patrick Stickles’ poetic ramblings and discussions about the seven tracks on the band’s follow-up to the sprawling, triple-LP The Most Lamentable Tragedy. The film is on youtube for free.
- Amos Perrine is a roots music photography, and his weekly column over at No Depression features some great pictures, from a variety of photographers, of artists and performances. This week he’s got pictures from Cayamo Cruise, meaning close-ups with some great artists like Brandi Carlile, John Prine, Margo Price, Buddy Miller, Robert Ellis, and more.
- Apparently not all of Amy Winehouse’s unreleased demos were destroyed after her death in 2015. This new old song is called “My Own Way” and was co-written by Gil Cang, Maryanne Morgan, and James McMillan. The song was posted to youtube by Cang (via NPR), who said, “This is a song…that we love and want the world to be able to hear.”
