Welcome to the song of the day, where we feature a single track, whether its brand new or older than us, overlooked or overplayed, our favorite or no one’s favorite; as long as its interesting, it can be the song of the day.
Today we’ve got “Fluorescent Adolescent” by The Arctic Monkeys.
Ten years ago today, The Arctic Monkeys were among the big winners at the NME Awards in London. James Corden and Matt Horne hosted the 55th edition of the awards, where Alex Turner and his boys took home Best British Band, Best Track for “Fluorescent Adolescent”, and Best Video for “Teddy Picker.”
The second single and fifth track from the band’s breakthrough 2007 album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, “Fluorescent Adolescent” is a live staple that Turner wrote with his then-girlfriend, Johanna Bennett. We haven’t heard from the Monkeys since 2013’s AM, but bassist Nick O’Malley told For the Ride in September that their newest would be out in 2018, “because if it isn’t, we’ve got problems.”
