Welcome to the song of the day, where we feature a single track, whether its brand new or older than us, overlooked or overplayed, our favorite or no one’s favorite; as long as its interesting, it can be the song of the day.
Today’s song is “Like a Rolling Stone” performed by Rostam Batmanglij at the SiriusXMU studios. Since leaving Vampire Weekend, the Iranian-American multi-instrumentalist and producer has released a collaborative album, I Had A Dream That You Were Mine, with Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen in 2016 and a solo album, Half-Light, last year. “Like a Rolling Stone” is the opening track on Bob Dylan’s 1965 classic, Highway 61 Revisited.
In my mind, there’s a running list of songs that are so good that no matter who is singing them and how, they sound good. This is one of those songs. Whether it’s this version, the original, the Stones version, the Titus Andronicus one from their last album, Jimi Hendrix, Green Day…they’re all good.
