In addition to being probably my favorite Steely Dan song, “My Old School” is the second single from the band’s second studio album, Countdown to Ecstasy in 1973. It was the first album with Donald Fagen on lead vocals, so really the first Steely Dan album in the form that they would become known for. The school of the title is Bard College, where Fagen and Walter Becker first met and eventually formed the band. “My Old School” followed “Show Biz Kids” as songs released prior to the album’s release.
