Song of the Day: "Party Doll" by Buddy Knox

Welcome to the song of the day, where we feature a single track, whether its brand new or older than us, overlooked or overplayed, our favorite or no one’s favorite; as long as its interesting, it can be the song of the day.

Today’s song was number one on the charts 61 years ago today, a significant milestone because Buddy Knox both wrote and performed “Party Doll.” This marked the first time an artist wrote their own number one hit. Knox co-wrote the song with Jimmy Bowen, himself a singer at the time. Knox was born in Texas and had a recording career through the ’80s, though he never again reached the number one spot. He died in 1999.

His son, Michael Knox, is a record producer who ‘discovered’ Jason Aldean and produced all of his albums.
