Song of the Day: "Sleeping on the Blacktop" by Colter Wall

Welcome to the song of the day, where we feature a single track, whether its brand new or older than us, overlooked or overplayed, our favorite or no one’s favorite; as long as its interesting, it can be the song of the day.

“Sleeping on the Blacktop” is the first song on Colter Wall’s debut release, a 2015 EP titled Imaginary Appalachia. Though the 22-year-old is from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, he has the deep baritone singing voice of an old southerner. Wall’s first proper album, Colter Wall, was produced by Dave Cobb, and featured a duet with Tyler Childers.

“Sleeping on the Blacktop” was featured in the Martin McDonagh-directed 2017 film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and the David McKenzie western Hell or High Water, starring Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine, and Ben Foster.
