Song of the Day: "Subterranean Homesick Blues" by Bob Dylan

Welcome to the song of the day, where we feature a single track, whether its brand new or older than us, overlooked or overplayed, our favorite or no one’s favorite; as long as its interesting, it can be the song of the day.

If you’ve got a half a million dollars that you’re looking to spend, the Fender Telecaster that Bob Dylan played on his very first ‘electric’ tour is going to be up for auction pretty soon, with the money from the sale going to the American Indian College Fund. The guitar belonged to Robbie Robertson of The Band, at that time going by The Hawks, who backed Dylan up for that 1966 tour. The tour was following the release of Bringing It All Back Home in 1965, which featured seven songs with electric accompaniment, including the very first track, “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” The song’s lyrical content was heavily influenced by ’60s beat poets like Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg and was released as the first single from the album, with track number two, “She Belongs To Me” as its b-side.
