Welcome to the song of the day, where we feature a single track, whether its brand new or older than us, overlooked or overplayed, our favorite or no one’s favorite; as long as its interesting, it can be the song of the day.
Elvis Costello made his official musical debut with 1977’s My Aim Is True, 13 songs that Costello wrote himself and recorded in a very short period of time in 1976 at Pathway Studios in London with producer Nick Lowe. “Wave a White Flag” was recorded during the album sessions but was ultimately cut, along with a few other songs like “Poison Moon” and “Radio Sweetheart.” The demos of these songs, which is the only version of this song that exists, eventually surfaced on a re-release of the album in 1993. Some of the other songs cut from My Aim Is True, “No Action” and “Living in Paradise,” were eventually re-recorded for Costello’s second album, This Year’s Model, which was also produced by Lowe.
