Just a year removed from his full-length debut, Nashville-based Canadian country singer Colter Wall returns with another album of vintage-sounding cowboy songs produced by Dave Cobb with Songs of the Plains. Wall’s newest leans even harder into the American country music of the 50s and 60s — down to the Western aesthetic of the album’s cover. Wall’s deep baritone voice is a perfect fit with the Grand Ole Opry-style of Songs of the Plains.
The 23-year-old’s tour supporting the album has begun, with dates in Canada, and though he’ll be at Irving Plaza in New York in November, does not have anything scheduled yet for Philadelphia or New Jersey.
Like fellow modern music legends Paul McCartney and Paul Simon, Elvis Costello is back in 2018 with a brand new album, though unlike his counterparts, Look Now is a unique-sounding albums in the British sexagenarian’s discography, employing a horn section and a little bit of upbeat funk. The album, with backing band the Imposters, is Costello’s first release since the Roots collaboration Wise Up Ghost in 2013 and his first solo album since National Ransom in 2010.
Costello will be in Bethlehem, Atlantic City, and Asbury Park in early November.
Following her 2017 debut release, First Songs, Kansas City singer-songwriter Anna St. Louis’ first full-length, If Only There Was A River was recorded in Louisiana with producers Kyle Thomas and Kevin Morby. St. Louis’ voice haunts the 11 contemplative songs on the album, released today via Woodsist.
There were a few new Kurt Vile songs on last year’s Lotta Sea Lice, a collaboration with Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, but Bottle It Up is the Philadelphian’s solo follow-up to 2015’s b’lieve I’m going down… The shaggy stoner-rock features Kim Gordon, Cass McCombs, and other guests and will be supported by an international tour with Vile’s backing band, the Violators, including a late-December date at The Met in Philadelphia.
